Background

I was born in Hong Kong and moved to Canada for several years as a child, before returning to Canada to study a BMath at the University of Waterloo. I then completed a Masters and PhD at the City University of Hong Kong. In Dec 2021, I moved to the UK to work as a research associate at the Institute for Manufacturing, University of Cambridge. I’m currently based in the Toronto area, seeking industry roles in data science, simulation, or backend/data-focused software engineering.

My Erdős number is 3: Erdős → Charles K. Chui → Guanrong Chen → me (thanks to this paper).

Research interests

Most of my research and industry work sits in discrete-event and stochastic simulation modelling, applied across a few different domains over the years:

• Healthcare service delivery — bed occupancy and patient flow modelling, including work on space-aware digital twins of hospital operations during my time at Cambridge
• Telecommunications — teletraffic theory and quality-of-service evaluation in mobile and overflow-loss network systems
• Epidemiology — compartmental (SEIHR-style) models of disease spread, including work on COVID-19 dynamics with migration effects

Tools

I work mainly in Python, with working experience in TypeScript, Rust, C++, and R — always open to picking up new languages and frameworks. I also built this site myself — DNS, CI/CD, and static-site deployment included — as a hands-on dive into the full web-hosting pipeline.
